Lviv City Hall Tower

Updated: Oct 8, 2025

Located in the historic Rynok Square of Lviv, the City Hall Tower (Ratusha) is a landmark of civic pride and architectural elegance. The original town hall dates back to the 14th century, but the current tower was built in the 19th century in neoclassical style, after several reconstructions due to fires and war damage.

Standing over 65 meters tall, the tower has long been the symbol of local governance, housing the municipal offices and serving as a watchpoint over the city. Its clock and bells have marked the rhythm of urban life for generations.

Today, visitors can climb its 408 steps to enjoy a panoramic view of Lviv’s UNESCO-protected Old Town — a city known for its rich blend of Ukrainian, Polish, Armenian, and Jewish heritage.

In this activity, students will recreate the City Hall Tower and reflect on how city architecture reflects democratic values, history, and multicultural identity in urban life.
