The CEC Palace, or Palatul CEC, is one of Bucharest’s most elegant and iconic buildings, standing proudly on Calea Victoriei since its completion in 1900. Designed by French architect Paul Gottereau, the building served as the headquarters of the Caisse d'Épargne (Savings Bank) of Romania, and today still houses the CEC Bank.
The palace is a masterpiece of eclectic architecture, combining Beaux-Arts style with a majestic glass and metal dome, richly decorated facades, and monumental columns. Its refined symmetry and attention to detail reflect the confidence and optimism of Romania’s early modern era.
Beyond its architectural beauty, the CEC Palace tells the story of a nation’s economic development and modernization — a physical symbol of trust, ambition, and civic identity in a rapidly changing world.
In this activity, students will model the CEC Palace and explore how public buildings can express values like stability, progress, and elegance through architecture.
