CP RIOTURBIO🇪🇸

CP Rioturbio is a small rural public school located just 4 kilometers from Mieres, in the heart of Asturias’ historic mining valley. We educate 41 students across Preschool and Primary, supported by a committed team of 13 teachers who work daily to deliver an education that is close, creative, and fully aligned with the real needs of our learners.

Who We Are at CP Rioturbio

We operate in a socially complex environment: many of our students come from vulnerable contexts, and we serve a high number of learners with specific educational support needs. This reality doesn’t limit our ambition—on the contrary, it reinforces our commitment to equity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all.

At Rioturbio, we believe in a school that accompanies, cares, and transforms. A school where every child is seen, heard, and valued.

Our Identity: Creativity, Art, and Learning-Driven Spaces

Our school has always positioned art and creativity as strategic engines for learning. We see spaces as educational agents; therefore, we nurture environments that are aesthetic, welcoming, and stimulating.

We regularly take part in educational innovation projects—PROA+, STEAM programs, and regional initiatives—which have enabled us to implement active, inclusive, competency-based methodologies connected to students’ realities and designed to strengthen their autonomy.

Rioturbio and Europe: A School That Expands Its Horizons

CP Rioturbio has been involved in Erasmus+ programmes for years. For a small school like ours, these opportunities act as a powerful growth accelerator: opening borders, learning from other teachers, and providing students with life-changing educational experiences.

Recent Highlights:

  • Erasmus+ RIDE: Students and staff participated in an educational camp in Budapest focused on inclusion and diversity.

  • Erasmus+ Hosting School: We have welcomed teachers from Romania, Hungary, and Italy, as well as students with special educational needs from St. Nicolae School (Romania).

These exchanges have positioned us as a small center with a strong European vision and a clear international vocation.

Our Current Project: EU FOR ALL

We are currently participating in the Erasmus+ project EU FOR ALL, a strategic initiative focused on 3D design, creativity, European culture, and inclusive education. Through this project, our students:

  • Explore European countries, geography, and heritage

  • Design postcards and digital products

  • Create 3D models in Tinkercad

  • Print objects using our 3D printer

  • Work with AI, green screen filming, and video editing

  • Join multicultural activities that foster a strong European outlook

For a school like ours, this project represents a real mechanism to ensure that all students—regardless of their personal circumstances—can access innovative and meaningful learning experiences aligned with Europe’s educational priorities.

A Small School With a Big Vision

At Rioturbio, we strongly believe that innovation and internationalization must also reach small and rural schools. Our participation in Erasmus+ goes far beyond a project: it is a strategic gateway to broaden horizons, learn collaboratively, and build a more equitable, inspiring, and European-connected school.

What Our Students Learned: Their European Learning Journey

Our students developed an integrated project that combined:

  • Cultural research about Europe

  • Creation of AI-generated postcards

  • Design and recording of tourism-style videos using chroma

  • Use of current digital tools

  • Geometric reinterpretation of European monuments

  • 3D design in Tinkercad

  • Route creation in Google Maps

  • Development of a shared European narrative

Their final products were presented in an exhibition and a collective event that showcased the voice and creativity of the entire student body.

Teachers’ Voices

For the teaching team, Erasmus+ has become a strategic lever for professional growth and for aligning our practices with a broader European vision. Working with international colleagues has strengthened our capacity to innovate and to design more inclusive, creative learning environments.

“Collaborating with European teachers opened up new ways of understanding teaching and strengthened our professional development.”— Cristina García & Carmen M. Zapico.

This experience has reinforced our commitment to continuous improvement and to bringing high-value European practices into our small rural school.

Students’ Experiences

Our students consistently highlighted how the project expanded their horizons and boosted their confidence in learning. Their feedback reflects the transformative impact of engaging with Europe through creativity and technology:

These voices confirm that EU FOR ALL didn’t just develop skills—it strengthened identity, autonomy, and a genuine European perspective across the student body.
